- Study the two papers separately. Maths, Reasoning and General Awareness appear in both papers, but the final exam adds English and different topics such as Probability, Input-Output and State-level GK. Mark which topics are common and which are new.
- Treat Mathematics as Madhyamik level. The prelims maths is set at that level, so revise class 9-10 concepts first. Then practise Percentage, Time and Work, Mensuration and Data Interpretation, which appear across the syllabus.
- Manage time in the prelims. 100 questions in 60 minutes leaves about 36 seconds per question. Practise timed sets so you do not lose time on one puzzle or calculation.
- Be careful with guesses. The prelims carries 0.25 negative marking. Attempt questions you can narrow down and skip the ones you cannot.
- Keep current affairs and static GK in a daily routine. Current Affairs, Sports and Awards, and State-level GK change often, so revise them regularly instead of leaving them to the end.
- Train for the PET alongside the written exam. Male candidates need to run 1600 m in 6 minutes 30 seconds, and female candidates 800 m in 4 minutes. Practise at these exact distances and timings, and check the PMT standards for your category early.
